ECOPSIS provides advisory services for optimizing the use of available water resources, designing inclusive sanitation services from containment to treatment and developing the circular economy.

Initially set-up to respond to the demand of the Swiss market for decentralised sanitation services, ECOPSIS operates globally in the following sectors:

  • Wastewater and faecal sludge management.

  • Solid waste management.

  • Agricultural and industrial waste management.

  • Drinking water services.

  • Water resource protection and flood risk management.

 

ECOPSIS brings cutting-edge technical knowledge to inform investment and services design as well as strong experience in policy and strategy development. Working with national and local governments, development partners and NGOs, ECOPSIS supports its clients to tackle the multiple dimensions of resilient services: the environmental context, including climate hazards, socio-economic conditions, institutional and financial arrangements as well as organisational capacity.

The Opportunity

ECOPSIS is looking for a mid-level consultant to join its team. The position involves supporting the team in the provision of services to our clients via: consultations, research, data analysis and report production. The Water and Sanitation Specialist is also expected to support with project management and business development. It is expected that the candidate will quickly progress towards more autonomy in their responsibilities.

The role will involve inputs into a range of consultancy activities, including:

  • Feasibility studies and market assessments related to the above focal areas

  • Programme and projects design and evaluations

  • Climate risks assessments

  • Development of guidelines and training material on infrastructure operations and services management

  • Financial analysis and business case development

  • Policy and strategy development for water and sanitation services, as well as water resource management and waste valorisation.

Specific tasks will include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Desk research

  • Interviews with stakeholders and sector stakeholders

  • Conducting and supervising data collection, including field work

  • Quantitative and qualitative data analysis

  • Development and production of reports

  • Reporting to client and sector stakeholders, online or in-person.

 

The successful candidate will also take part in general activities in support of ECOPSIS business development, communication activities, project management and administration. Specific tasks in these areas include:

  • Identifying relevant business opportunities (call for proposals, requests for expression of interests)

  • Development of proposals, with inputs and support from ECOPSIS senior staff

  • Posting relevant communications on ECOPSIS’ website and LinkedIn

  • Development of proposal documents and bids relating to specific calls for tender

  • Participation in team meetings

  • Providing ad hoc support on various technical and administrative tasks.

The Essentials

  1. Master’s degree in a related discipline such as water science, engineering, and environmental studies

  2. Minimum of two to three years’ working experience in the water, sanitation, wastewater or solid waste fields, with prior experience within a consultancy firm, NGO, development agency or research organisation

  3. High proficiency in Microsoft office

  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills

  5. Fluency in both English and French

  6. Willingness to travel (up to about the equivalent of 25% of working time)

  7. Ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders

  8. Flexibility, self-motivation and excellent organisational skills

  9. Ability to work remotely

 

 

Great to Have

  1. Experience of working in one or more of the following regions: Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, South Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, Middle East and North Africa, Eastern Europe

  2. Additional language (Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred)

  3. Experience in international tender procedures (World Bank, etc.)

  4. Experience of working as a consultant

  5. Proficiency in GIS software (QGIS)

  6. Experience in engineering design (water, wastewater, solid waste management)

                  

   

Location

The successful candidate will be required to work either in Lausanne or London on a frequent basis during his/her probationary period and as negotiated with the employer.

The position is a fully remote working position. Depending on the candidate, ECOPSIS may offer to cover the costs of a co-working space in Lausanne or London.
