Climate Responsive Strategies
Our team works on integrating climate change adaptation and mitigation measures into water and sanitation management systems. We address the increasing impacts of climate variability on water resources and infrastructure, such as droughts, floods, and rising temperatures. ECOPSIS can assess climate-friendly technologies, measure cities and communities’ resilience, and advise on water conservation. We provide tailored services for estimating Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions along the water and sanitation service chain. As well as incorporate flood management in our recommendations for optimum resilient solutions.
Projects
Climate Friendly Sanitation Technologies for Africa
Africa | GGGI
Identified and evaluated climate-friendly sanitation technologies across the sanitation service chain for the African sanitation sector, focusing on Senegal, Burkina Faso, and the Ivory Coast. Conducted a market assessment in the target countries, analysing policies, regulations, and demand for different technologies. Assessed and shortlisted the five most viable technologies based on market insights, technical feasibility, financial viability, climate impact, and scalability. For the top two selected technologies, developed business models for market penetration, including entry strategies, commercial approaches, and pathways for industrial-scale implementation. Prepared two project concept notes targeting climate finance to support their implementation in the region.

Evidence Generation on GHG Emissions in the Sanitation Sector
Mozambique & Nigeria | UNICEF
Developed and applied methodologies for estimating Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHGs) from sanitation systems at national and city levels, with a focus on Nigeria (Bauchi) and Mozambique (Maputo). The project generated evidence on the importance of sanitation to GHG emissions and supported UNICEF’s country programmes on climate-smart sanitation. This work will be used to engage with governments on the preparation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and project notes for climate finance.
Sanitation NDC Implementation Strategy
Senegal | GGGI
Prepared an operational and financial strategy for the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) on liquid waste in Senegal (2025-2035). The process involved a review of existing programmes and projects planned by various implementors (including ONAS) to identify alignment with the NDC objectives and potential investment gaps. This work will enhance the Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from sanitation services. It will be used to prepare the next NDC and support Senegal's access climate finance.
